San Vicente

We returned from our outreach to San Vicente Monday afternoon. We spent the week working with a church and we also spent lots of time visiting families within the community. We really enjoyed the city and the people in it. It is amazing how you can make such good friendships within such a short time!

Through our time there it really feels like we have become more of a family rather than just a bunch of students doing a school together. To me this is truly a beautiful thing to see such a unity and coming together within the group. Aaron and I are also benefiting from the experience of leading a team. We’ve been gaining a lot of wisdom and patience! I can truly say that we love what we are doing right now and we are learning many things.

One thing in the trip really stuck out to me. Sometime in the middle of the week it became noticeable that a lot of our plans were falling through. The thing that really came to my mind was when Moses tells God “if your presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here.” We didn’t want to take another step until we really sought God and so we canceled our plans for the night and just listened.

I don’t quite know how to explain that evening but it was something really beautiful. We laid everything aside and just became available to whatever God led us to do. I think it was a key time for the team to realize the importance of doing things in God’s strength and as he guides.

As for the translating bit, it went quite well. A girl from Germany has joined our team and she knows a good amount of Spanish and so together we are able to translate for the team. It can be a big struggle at times but it’s a really good way to learn more.

We have a little more than 3 weeks until our outreach to the north of Chile. I have a feeling that the time will fly! And it’s just one of those things that you are excited about but at the same time you have no idea what to expect! Vamos a ver…
