San Diego

We had the greatest day yesterday. We drove down to San Diego in the morning which is just over an hour and a half from us. I love San Diego, it has to be one of my most favorite areas. I had only seen a tiny part of it so I was really excited to see more! We started our day at Balboa Park which is ridiculously gorgeous! There was unbelievable architecture, fountains, gardens, ponds, bridges... the list goes on! This is one of my top places to walk around and explore. It is huge and there is lots to see. we had a nice lunch, grabbed a coffee and then we drove down the coast to Cabrillo National Monument. There was an old light house, tide pools, and a nice view of the ocean. We climbed down the rocks, kicked off our sandals and let the waves rush over our feet. After walking around the cliffs for a while we headed to Old Town to meet up with My pastors from Canada, Murray and Lorrie. They are in San Diego this week for a pastor's conference.

We love this couple and we were really excited to spend the evening with them. We walked around for a while, looked at some shops and then we had a nice dinner at a Mexican restaurant. Great conversation, great food, great people! We were so encouraged by them and it was the perfect end to a great day.

We have a couple more visits coming up this month! Next week our friend Kelly from Atlanta will be coming to see us for a few days. We met her in Costa Rica 4 years ago and she is a dear friend. Also next week we will be going to Palm Desert to spend a day with Grandpa John and Margaret (my dad's dad.) They are spending a month down here to escape the last part of winter in Canada. They have never really met Aaron (just at the wedding) so it will be really nice for them to get to know him. Last but not least. Our great friend Cindy will be coming down mid-March with a group of her students from YWAM Pismo Beach to put on an event for our college group.

Looks like it is going to be a good month and we are excited to see everyone!!

Last few days...

Our last few days with Amanda were great. On Wednesday it was a little rainy so we decided to go to the Los Angeles area instead of the beach. We started off with a trip to the Grauman's Chinese Theatre. I have never actually been there myself so it was pretty cool to see all the handprints of everyone from Marilyn Monroe to Tom Hanks. Then we walked over to the Kodak Theatre and everyone was there setting up for the Oscar Awards this Sunday. We walked on the red carpet and then we grabbed some lunch. Then, as we were walking down the street we happened to see Harrison Ford as well as Jimmy Kimmel. Welcome to Hollywood I guess...

We took Amanda to Sunset Blvd to show her the shops and then we drove down Beverly Hills to look at the crazy houses. We ended our day with a trip to the Getty Museum. I was beyond impressed! This is a must see if you ever happen to be in the LA area. The museum itself is on top of a huge hill that overlooks the city. There are five beautifully architected buildings that house art in different time periods. There is also an amazing outdoor garden that I was personally interested in. Needless to say I took a lot of pictures. It was a great day.

On Thursday Amanda and I spent the day together while Aaron worked on his sermon. We did a little shopping, had a nice lunch and in the evening we had dinner with Aaron's family.

Yesterday was pretty chill. We met up with our friend, Jessica and went out for some authentic Mexican tacos and tortas and horchata. We watched a movie and then we headed home and just hung out for the evening. Amanda and I watched the DVD of Rob Bell's first tour called "Everything is Spiritual" It is fantastic and it will definitely make you think! You can watch a clip of it here.

This morning we drove Amanda to the airport and parted ways. It was such a great week and we really enjoyed having her here. It's rare to find a friend like she has been to us and I'm really happy that she took her reading break to come down and visit.

Three friends from Chile

Amanda has finally arrived!! Our long lost friend from Chile... She got here late Saturday night and we have had a great start to the week. On Sunday two of our very close friends from Chile came to visit us as well. (what are the odds eh?) Ray and Susan live in South Carolina but they were in the Palm Springs area to visit Ray's parents. It was so amazing to see them! We all had some great Mexican food together at Aaron's parents house after church.

On Monday we went to Universal Studios with Aaron's parents and our nephews and niece. It was so fun! Neither of us had ever been there before so it was new to everybody. We took a tour that showed us different sets that they use in movies. There was a european town, a western town, a mexican town, a subway station, and even the set of "the war of the worlds" when the plane crashes into the neighborhood. They show you how they do floods and earthquakes and rain and explosions... it was really cool. It was an awesome day. After a long day, the "suegros" and the "sobrinos" headed back home and Aaron, Amanda and I had a nice dinner at an Italian restaurant on the city walk.

Yesterday we had more of a relaxed day. We slept in, had a nice breakfast, and then walked around downtown Redlands and had a coffee. Aaron wasn't feeling too well in the evening so me and Amanda did a little shopping and I introduced her to Target and Ross... haha. Actually, Aaron and I have both been fighting really bad colds. My voice was completely gone for 2 days! It's a little better now but we are both still coughing and sneezing all day... Thank goodness I found Buckley's at the grocery store. I couldn't believe I found it here in the States. Buckley's is a cough medicine that tastes like garbage compost and makes you dry heave... but oh baby does it work!! Give it a try folks, you'll be hooked!

Anyways, today we are off to the Beach Cities. Santa Monica, Venice Beach and maybe Newport and Laguna if we have time. Should be good times...
